Devon has a great range of distilleries producing some of the best hand-crafted gin the UK has to offer! Did you know that Devon’s relationship with gins dates back to the middle ages – there are several distilleries producing traditional gins in Devon since the Middle Ages.
Quite fortunately Devon still boasts excellent award-winning gins with history and traditions going back hundreds of years. But in recent years new distilleries have emerged, producing craft gins in a variety of unique styles.
Many have even begun to create gin tours and tasting experiences, as well as some, have even opened gin schools, where you can learn how to make your own unique mix!
We have listed below 7 of the best independent gin brands in Devon which are unique in their own ways!
Atlantic Spirit, Bideford – North Devon
Based in North Devon, and huge lovers of the Devon coastline just like another Devonian, Atlantic Spirits have created a range of 6 gins made using Tarka Springwater, premium sourced & locally foraged herbs & fruits! Some of their sea-inspired creations include samphire and laver seaweed, which bring out the #spiritofnorthdevon.
Plymouth Gin, Plymouth – South Devon
Wherever you are on your gin journey, there’s no better place to start than Plymouth. Their craft began way back in 1793, and we’ve never stopped searching for the new.
Dating back to the late 1700s, Plymouth gin is based in a historic building dating back to the 1400s. They do excellent distillery tours too! They have their standard gin, a navy strength version but also a sloe gin and fruit cup.

Salcombe Gin, Salcombe – South Devon
Based in Salcombe, this brand has really found its place in the local and luxury market. They have developed special editions with celebrity chefs including Michael Caines, Monica Galetti, & Paul Ainsworth. You can visit their shop, bar and distillery too!
They donate 1% of all sales to the Marine Conservation Society as a part of their ‘1% for the ocean’ sustainability campaign.
They also have an alcohol-free gin called New London Light.
Dartmouth Gin, Dartmouth, South Devon
Dartmouth Gin is an award-winning premium gin distilled in Devon. They use the finest botanicals from around the world, together with herbs, flowers and fruit sourced from the Calancombe Estate.
Their gin is smooth, full-bodied and refreshing. It can be enjoyed on its own, is delightful with tonic & is the perfect foundation for a wide range of cocktails.
They even have a Gin School, where you can learn how to make your own unique botanical mix by the Head Distiller!
Gotland Gin, Highampton, Mid Devon
Gotland Gin offers 3 options for gin experiences at really reasonable prices, including private hire of their gin bar for a bubble of 6 people for only £50 including a FREE drink each! They even have Tasting experiences available at £15 per person.

Wicked Wolf Gin, Exmoor, North Devon
Wicked Wolf Exmoor Gin is an award-winning premium handcrafted gin made using botanicals that are organic and fairtrade.

Exeter Gin, Exeter, South Devon
Exeter Gin celebrates Exeter’s Roman heritage. They have a selection of robust yet smooth artisan gins which are produced in a traditional copper still. They use ancient botanicals favoured by the Romans between circa AD55 – AD380 such as tarragon, basil, & marigold with 11 other botanicals, resulting in providing an outstanding gin experience.
Check out their ‘Gin Tasting with Tour’ & ‘Gin School with Tour’experiences, they are quite popular! You can even book their Granny Garbutt’s Gin Bar for your own private party of up to 20 guests.
